Memento...
I'd heard tons about this film... probably due to the fact that it is a popular movie that is edited all out of order and people assume that because Im an editor they should tell me about movies that draw attention to themselves by virtue of being non-linear. Honestly I wasn't in to this film too much for about 75% of it. I loved the opening and I thought the fact that it was played in reverse was a great idea considering that the rest of the film would be told out of sequence (roughly backwards) and end up walking all over itself. The idea of a guy that has short term memory loss but is trying to solve crimes, was somewhat interesting to me, but apart from the story being told out of sequence I think that trick would have worn thin. Like I said I wasn't too impressed with this one... until the end. I didn't see it coming, and knowing the end (which in a sense was the beginning) retrospectively I enjoyed the story. (I don't like giving a lot away so sorry for being so vague.)
Im kind of tired of the new school of Tarentino-esque storytelling that purposfully draws attention to itself, but in this case due to the whole memory loss thing, I think it worked extremely well. Like I said, the memory loss thing wouldn't have worked without the out of sequence story telling, and that type of story telling would have been tiresome without the memory thing. All together it was very cool.
I'll probably watch it again.
